OUR JOURNEY

At Hada-huigu, our story is rooted in passion, resilience, and a commitment to uplifting communities. What began as a school project has grown into a fully-fledged NGO dedicated to making a lasting impact. Our journey has been one of learning, growth, and perseverance—shaped by experiences, challenges, and a vision to create meaningful change.

The Beginning: A Vision for Change

Between 2015 and 2016, we took part in a community project called "You for Your Community", an initiative sponsored by the Goethe-Institut. The program encouraged participating learners to develop project proposals aimed at positively impacting their communities.

After rigorous evaluation, we were honored to be selected among the four winning teams from Namibia. In June 2015, a jury—including notable experts such as Dr. Khulu Mbatha, former Special Advisor to South African President Kgalema Motlanthe (2008-2014)—chose hands-on projects that demonstrated direct social and welfare benefits for their communities.

As winners, we were invited to attend the PASCH - "You for Your Community" camp in August 2015 in Durban, South Africa, alongside winning teams from Malawi and South Africa. This experience allowed us to refine our ideas, engage in project planning workshops, and interact with community-driven initiatives, preparing us to become active change-makers in our own communities.

Award-Winning Impact

Returning to Namibia with newfound inspiration, we submitted our project in June 2016 and were thrilled to be awarded first place as the overall winning project. As a reward, we received a sponsored trip to Germany, where we attended a workshop on Sustainable Project Development and gained further training to enhance our initiative.

Bringing Our Vision to Life

Following the workshop, we officially launched our first community project, centered around supporting the Hada Huigu Orphanage Home in Okombahe—a settlement just 7 km from our boarding school, Martin Luther High School.

Our commitment was hands-on: once a week, we visited the orphanage, engaging the children in activities such as playing, singing, helping with homework, and providing emotional support. The positive impact of our efforts became evident early on, and the late caregiver (May her soul rest in peace) expressed deep satisfaction with the difference we were making.

Unfortunately, after the passing of our supporting teacher in 2017, the project came to a halt.

Our Mission Today & The Road Ahead

What started as a school project has evolved into a powerful platform for youth-driven community transformation. Our mission is no longer confined to a single orphanage or settlement; rather, it embraces a holistic approach to community development—focusing on education, mentorship, and sustainable change.
